Small snail

Svenska här

I was asked to crochet a snail and found this pattern by Kungen och Majkis. It was easy to crochet and a quick project. Great as a stashbuster!

You can use any yarn with appropriate hook. I used cotton yarn and crochet hook no 3,5 / E

Here is the pattern in english for you:

The rounds are not joined but crochetet in a spiral. I recomend you use a stitch marker in the first stitch of round and move it along your work.

I stuffed mine with shredded old pantyhose. I’m sure a new pair would work too….

You need:

Scraps of yarn

Hook appropriate size for yarn.

Stuffing of choise.

R 1: 6 sc in magic circle.

R 2: 2 sc in every stitch.

R 3: * 1 sc in first stitch, 2 sc in next * Repeat *-* the whole round.

R 4 and 5: 1 sc in every stitch.

R 6: 1 sc in first stitch. 2sctog in next 2 stiches. Carry this on in as many rounds needed until you have 9 sc in your circle. Fill the head with stuffing of choise.

Do another 18 rounds of 1 sc in every stitch. Fill body with stuffing as you go.

Change to another colour of chois and do 36 more rounds. Stuff as you go but leave 3 cm (a little more than 1 inch) unstuffed. (I did not get this until I read the pattern again just now…)

Fasten off. Leave enough yarn to swe snail together. Roll upp shell and stitch together.

Make two antennas and sew them onto snail. When comparing my picture to Kungen och Majkis picture hers are further in the back of head than mine. Hers is cuter.

Antenna:

Chain 5. 3 sc in 2:nd ch from hook. Slip stithc in rest of chains. Fasten off.

Embroider eyes and lines on shell if you want.

Done!

I made a scarf for mine. It is still winter in Sweden.
